This is the EarthThe signals originated from the broadcast station must travel over 20,000 miles before they are bounced off the satellite in the sky. The satellite that are used for television are all located in what is called "The Clark Belt". It was named after the famous author of "2001" as well as many other science fiction novels.
The signals then travel another 20,000 miles where they are received by a small satellite dish that is mounted on your roof (or another location). The signal goes from there into your satellite tv receiver where it is processed and made into pictures that you can view on your television set. Obviously, this is a very simplified version of "How Satellite TV Works" but as long as it works, who really cares?
